In 2018, gross emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the air (CO2 -EQ.) for TATNEFT Group amounted to 2,950,862 tonnes. The bulk of emissions into the atmosphere are attributed to the upstream segment (80%). Therefore, the measures are aimed primarily at the rational use of associated petroleum gas (APG) and reducing the volume of its flaring.
Dynamics of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by Scope1
2016 | 2017 | 2018 | |
---|---|---|---|
Direct emissions for TATNEFT Group due to fuel consumed, tons of CO2-eq. | 3 704 118 | 2 893 903 | 2 950 862 |
Note: The calculation of greenhouse gas emissions was carried out in accordance with the Methodological guidelines and regulations for the quantitative determination of greenhouse gas emissions by organizations engaged in economic and other activities in the Russian Federation, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Nature of the Russian Federation.
Utilization Project of Landfill Gas for Landfills of Solid Municipal Waste
In order to reduce emissions of «landfill gases» into the atmosphere, the Company is implementing the project on the Utilization of Landfill Gas for Landfills of Solid Municipal Waste (SMW). This project aims to collect and use landfill gas, which will not only reduce the anthropogenic pressure on the environment in the area of the SMW landfill, but also reduce the risk of climate change.
Within the framework of the Utilization Project of Landfill Gas for Landfills of SMW (Solid Municipal Waste), the following types of work were performed:
- The base project on the Utilization of Landfill Gas was developed and agreed at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan.
- An investment project on the Utilization of Landfill Gas for SMW Landfills has been developed.
- Meetings were held with representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, executive committees of the cities of Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk on the selection of a landfill for landfill gas utilization.
- Together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Executive Committee of Kazan, a pilot landfill was selected — the former CJSC KEK Samosyrovo; today the SMW landfill belongs to the Executive Committee of Kazan.
- The research of the landfill by TatNIPIneft and LLC Prombiogaz on methane productivity of the landfill was carried out.
Currently, regulations are being developed for the design of a degassing unit and design documentation for the degassing of a SMW landfill for a selected landfill.
TATNEFT is developing a corporate system for accounting and managing greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2018, the Company began to implement a system of accounting and inventory of greenhouse gases in accordance with the new requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation and international climate change standards.
